Ullaspool begins to Raise the Roof! Work has begun at long last to upgrade the roof of Ullapool’s Community Swimming Pool. Ullapool Construction have been busy since 1st March preparing the site for the installation of the new energy efficient. roof and solar panels.
The solar panels were due to be installed by Invisible Heating Systems in May 2010 when problems with the roof structure were first identified and the pool was subsequently forced to close.
The financing of this project has been made possible due to securing funds from a variety of sources - including the local community and both private and public bodies:
| Highland Leader | £326600 |
| Highlands and Islands Enterprise | £54000 |
| Highland Council | £50000 |
| Community Fund-raising | £49600 |
| Wester Ross Salmon | £5000 |
| RBS Community Fund | £3000 |
| Ross & Cromarty Ward Discretionary Fund | £10000 |
| Sutherland Discretionary Ward Fund | £4600 |
As part of the funding package Ullaspool to recruit a Business Development Officer whose job it will be to oversee the development of Ullaspool as a successful Social Enterprise over the next 18 months.
The works carried out to date have involved the drainage of the pool, dismantling the changing rooms, protecting the poolside, erecting scaffolding and undertaking exploratory work to assess the condition of the existing roof beams.
The Ullaspool Board would like to thank everyone involved in the fund-raising campaign for their encouragement and support over the past 10 difficult months. We look forward to welcoming you all to the pool sometime in August – all being well!
