In May 2010 the community of Ullapool first discovered that the local swimming pool would need to be upgraded to allow solar panels to be mounted.  Unfortunately the pool had to be closed until the upgrade was carried out.  This was a huge blow to the community and it sparked a tremendous response. The following summary of fundraising effort demonstrates the huge community support for the upgrade of the swimming pool roof and its importance to the people of the area and further afield.

Following an emergency public meeting in early June, the whole community, around 2000 people, have come together in an incredible fundraising effort.  This has generated over £35,000 to date with lots more events and fundraising planned before the end of 2010. It is not only people who live in the local community many with connections to Ullapool, past residents and regular visitors, have also lent their support.

Everyone is kept informed of what is going on through regular media reports in Ullapool News and other regional papers and through updates on the Facebook page which has over 400 subscribers and still rising.

As well as all the local events going on here, due to the amazing support of so many people Ullaspool has been voted as a finalist in the Royal Bank of Scotland Community Fund.  So many people voted that the pool is definitely going to be awarded £1000 but it might be the £3000 top prize for the outright winners!  Voting starts again on 8th Nov. https://communityfund.rbs.co.uk
